Downloading Regata OS and creating an installation media

Find out where to download the Regata OS ISO image and how to prepare a bootable Regata OS USB flash drive. This way you can try and evaluate Regata OS without making any changes to your computer. Remember that, in order to have a complete experience, you will need to install Regata OS on the machine.

Downloading Regata OS

To download Regata OS, just go to the Download page (via this link) and click on the "Download Regata OS" button. In addition, also on the Download page, on the Regata OS website, you will find an option to download the ISO image via Google Drive.

Minimum recommended system configuration:

  • 2GHz (64-bit) dual core processor or better
  • 4GB RAM memory
  • Hard drive with at least 25GB free space
  • USB connection for installing with USB stick

Creating installation media

As mentioned above, to install Regata OS on your computer, you must first create a bootable Regata OS USB flash drive. Check below some applications that can help you to do this procedure, which is very simple:

Windows

Using Etcher:
1. Start with an empty USB flash drive (formatted with FAT32) with at least 4GB of free space;
2. Download the Etcher application via from this link. You will find a portable version (just download and run) and one for installation;
3. With the application running, click on the Select Image button and choose the Regata OS ISO image, browsing through the file manager. Then it's time to choose the USB stick you want to use (if there is only one USB stick connected, the selection will be automatic) and click on the Flash! button and wait for the process to complete.

Using Win32 Disk Imager:
1. Start with an empty USB flash drive (formatted with FAT32) with at least 4GB of free space.
2. Download the Win32 Disk Imager program via this link and install it, a very quick process. When running the program as an administrator, it will open a window as shown in the image below:


3. Now just select the ISO image, choose the USB flash drive (if there is only one flash drive connected, the selection will be automatic) and click on the "Write" button and wait for the process to be completed.

TIP: When you are going to select the ISO image and, when accessing the folder where it is located, it does not appear visible, just select the option All files in the lower right corner.

Ubuntu, among other Linux distributions, and macOS

Using Etcher:
1. Start with an empty USB flash drive (formatted with FAT32) with at least 4GB of free space;
2. Download the Etcher application via from this link. When you are on the software download page, just select your operating system, in this case Linux x64 or macOS;
3. In the case of the Linux version of the application, extract the downloaded .zip file and run the application by double clicking on the .AppImage file, Etcher should immediately start. Now, on macOS, open Etcher from Launchpad. A window will appear as shown in the image below:


4. Now click on the Select Image button and choose the Regata OS ISO image, browsing through the file manager. Then it's time to choose the USB stick you want to use (if there is only one USB stick connected, the selection will be automatic) and click on the Flash! button and wait for the process to complete.

Booting Regata OS from the installation media

PC

To start Regata OS using the USB flash drive on a PC, just restart your computer with the USB flash drive still connected. Then change the boot order using the F12 key (or F11), in some cases using the Esc or key another function key, such as F2. The right key to press will depend a lot on the manufacturer of your computer's motherboard.

You can also consult your monitor screen itself, at the moment the motherboard manufacturer logo is displayed, or your computer/motherboard documentation to be sure which key to use. Then select the appropriate boot drive, ie your USB flash drive.

Mac

On a Mac, restart with the USB flash drive connected and after you hear the beep, press and hold the Option key. Then select the appropriate boot drive, ie your USB flash drive.

When you finally start Regata OS using the USB flash drive, the graphical interface will be loaded. Now just go to the applications menu and click on Install Regata OS to start the system installation process.
